2015 elections: We?re ready for open debate on Nigeria?s future ? Fashola

President Jonathan and Gov Babatubde Fashola of Lagos AHEAD of the 2015 general elections, Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, said All Progressives Congress, APC, would not shy away from any public debate on issues affecting the citizens of the country.

Fashola, spoke during a courtesy visit by the Public Relations Officers PROs, of the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, to the State House, said the expectations of the citizens from the party were high considering the on-going developmental works by the states controlled by APC.

According to him: ?We will reinforce the difference between our party (APC) and other political parties and we will escalate the ideas that drive our political party. And we will hold every other political party to the issues. That is what every election should be about; the issues that affect the citizens and we will be ready to discuss the issues frontallyand openly.

?People have started seeing new things from the party. Clearly APC has changed the game of politics in the country. People have expected us to do the traditional thing. Citizens are seeing APC political party that organises seminars on issues that affect them.?

He, however, urged the PROs, to ?connect people to those states where developmental works by APC are going on, where our governments have stood up for the people. And connect your people to the government of the day. It is important to note that the state where we do not have the government yet, it is important to stay on the issues.?

Earlier, the Publicity Secretary of APC, Lagos State, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said the PROs assembled in the state to brainstorm on the way forward for the party ahead of the 2015 elections.

According to him: ?We need to tap from one another?s resources and experience, drawn from our peculiarities in our respective states, assist one another in doing our works in our respective states.?

I'm done with Chris Oyakhilome; No going back on divorcing him - wife

Those who are hoping that Christ Embassy Head Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his estranged wife Anita Oyakhilome will resolve their issues and get back together, shouldn't hold their breath as the woman is said to have vowed to divorce the pastor Chris..

Speaking with Premium Times through her lawyers, Mrs Oyakhilome said her relationship with her husband had terribly degenerated that there is no room for any reconciliation or out-of-court settlement. Find the full report after the cut...

Premium Times had contacted Mrs. Oyakhilome through her lawyers, Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, after news broke that she had filed for divorce, to enquire whether any out-of-court settlement option was being explored.

In their response Tuesday, her attorneys said there was no chance the estranged couple would ever live as husband and wife again. ?It is with great sadness that our client, Pastor Anita Oyakhilome, has come to the conclusion that her marriage to Pastor Christian Oyakhilome has irretrievably broken down and regrettably there is no hope of any reconciliation,? said Stephen Goddard, Business Development Manager of Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors.

From early this year, there had been speculation that the marriage between Mr Oyakhilome, the founder of Believers Love World (aka Christ Embassy), and his wife, who is also Vice-president of the ministry, was collapsing. Some church members even set up a Facebook page, ?Where is Rev Anita Oyakhilome?, in May dedicated to addressing the issue.

The church initially denied reports that the couple were estranged and possibly divorcing. But TheCable news website reported on August 29 that Mrs. Oyakhilome had filed for divorce since April 9, accusing Pastor Chris, as he is fondly called by his followers, of ?adultery? and ?unreasonable behaviour?.

Pastor Chris has denied the allegations. He however warned church members against analysing his problem with his wife adding that the church is not a political party. He said his wife is a bitter and angry woman who is being influenced by bad friends who are out to seek his downfall. ?

The pastor added that most pastors? wives usually think they are equal to their husbands after they get married. He said his wife wanted to overpower the authorities of the elders she met when she joined the Christian ministry.

As the divorce battle rages, Mrs. Oyakhilome?s profile has been pulled down from the church?s website.

Scenes from the Calabar carnival in IrelandIT was twin honour for the Governor of Cross River State,  Senator  Liyel  Imoke, last weekend, as he bagged  two high-status  International  Awards at the Nigerian Carnival Ireland, NCI, in Dublin, the capital and largest city of Ireland.

Held at  the  Round room  of the  historic  Mansion House, Dublin,  Senator  Imoke  was  honoured with the  ?Global Tourism Ambassador  Award 2014?  for  making Nigeria a world Tourist destination via Calabar Carnival.

He was also honoured as  the ?NCI most outstanding personality of the year 2014  Award? for  his  credible records in the realization of numerous enviable achievements in developmental projects, and  for being  an exceptional leader.

The Awards ceremony, which climaxed the 5th  Anniversary  celebrations of the NCI  was co-hosted by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Christy Burke and the Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland,  Dr.  Bolere  Ketebu,  and  had as special guests,  High Chief  Edem  Duke, Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation.

Arrival

Senator Imoke arrived  Ireland via Dublin Airport  for the Carnival in the morning of Friday, August 22, accompanied by his aides and some other important  personalities.

Ireland

Ireland, or officially the Republic of Ireland, is an island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean. (The northernmost part of the island is Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom.) Almost 20 per cent of the land is devoted to farming. Less than 10 per cent of farmland is used to grow crops and the majority is used as grazing land for livestock.

Other awardees

Receiving awards alongside the Governor at  the ceremony  were former Ireland Minister of Justice, Deputy Alan Shatter, who was represented by Cleo Lambert and ace Nigerian broadcaster,  Bisi  Olatilo.

Shatter, received the NCI Migrant?s Choice Integration Ambassador 2014 Award for facilitating the settlement and building of ?a sense of belonging? for thousands of migrants in Ireland while  Bisi  Olatilo  received the NCI Media Excellence Award 2014.

Shatter received the NCI Migrant?s Choice Integration Ambassador 2014 Award for facilitating the settlement and building of ?a sense of belonging? for thousands of migrants in Ireland while  Bisi  Olatilo  received the NCI Media Excellence Award 2014.

Believer in continuity

At the occasion, Chairman of the Cross River State Peoples? Democratic Party (PDP), Chief  Ntufam  John  Okon, described Senator  Liyel  Imoke  as a perfectionist; one who loves to see things done with commitment and dedication.

?This is one great leader who believes so much in continuity of governance. Instead of pushing aside the efforts of the past administration, he has successfully transformed the inadequacies that may have been found in the projects of the past administration into top class achievements by linking them all up with innovations.

?Example of this is the linking of the  Tinapa  Resort to the Summit Hill project through the P8 Monorail electric powered passenger  train.  Calabar?s  new attraction, Summit Hills, is an exciting real estate project in Calabar and it is already alive and breathing. It consists of a Convention Centre, Hotel, Recreational Facilities, Golf Course, Clubhouse, Nature Reserve, Hospital and a variety of Residential units to create a vibrant and bustling community within a unique Eco system,? he added.

Dividend of democracy

The PDP chieftain opined, ?His Excellency has brought  so much dividend of democracy  to the people in his almost eight years in office; as a matter of fact, it was his scorecard as a true and outstanding leader in every sense  that earned him the honour of  ?NCI most outstanding personality of the year 2014 Award.?

Expanding tourism frontiers

Head of Cross River State Tourism bureau, Mr. Michael William, spoke delightedly about how Cross River State has evolved into the strategic position of the benchmark of tourism in Nigeria and sub-Africa region.

He seized the opportunity to invite tourism enthusiasts to the  yearly  Carnival  Calabar.  The Carnival event which usually takes a two-day space in the 32 day  Calabar  festival  will hold this year on December 26 and  27.

Good-natured

Everyone, especially Nigerians, who had opportunity of meeting  Senator  Imoke,  whose presence brought a unique excitement to the Nigerian Carnival in Dublin,  this year,  were entranced by the humble mien of the governor and were grateful for an opportunity to stand beside or shake hands with the man,  who interestingly does not believe in a governor  going about commissioning every little project that is executed by  government.

Also in Dublin for the Carnival were the  Cross River State Commissioner for Local Government, Chief Peter  Ojie,  the State Chairman, House Committee on Culture and Tourism,  Chike  Okogwu, Member of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, (SURE-P), Prince Philip  Orebiyi, Senior Special Assistant to the  Kogi  State Governor and Musa  Kakangi  Kaduna State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism.

There was also the  highly esteemed ?Carnival  Calabar? team, led by Mr. Chris  Agibe,  amongst  a host of other dignitaries from Cross River State.

?We are hopeful that this matter will be quickly resolved,? he added.

Last month, he pleaded guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest in an alleged drag-racing incident in Florida.

In July he was sentenced in Los Angeles to two years? probation for egg-bombing his neighbors? home.

Bieber was also ordered to perform community service, join an anger management program, and pay the owners of the vandalized home more than $80,000 in repairs.

He also has a hearing pending in Toronto into accusations he assaulted a limousine driver last year.

I will sue Australian negotiator who said I sponsor Boko Haram - Alimodu Sheriff

Former Borno state governor Alimodu Sheriff, who was accused by Australian Boko Haram negotiator Stephen Davis of being a sponsor of Boko Haram, held a press conference which ended a few minutes ago where he addressed the accusations. He denied the claims and said he plans to sue Mr Davis. He said the campaign against him is 'callous and unwarranted' and those linking him with the sect are 'either ignorant or completely out for mischief'. Some of the things he said below...
"I condole with the people of Borno, particularly the people of Bama, Gwoza and Gamboru over the recent attacks. My name has been mentioned for political reasons over the attacks of Boko Haram. I have been accused unfairly in connection with Boko Haram since I left office.
"For the records, let me state categorically that I do not share the same ideology with Boko Haram. By my nature, I am opposed to the philosophy of Boko Haram." Continue.
"The recent purported interview granted by Australian negotiator, Stephen Davies, could not avail the federal government of the information concerning the alleged sponsors of Boko Haram... but he sneaked out of the country to make false claims."
"It is instructive to point out that I have been one of the greatest victims of Borno. I was a target of Boko Haram during my time because I refused to abdicate my responsibility."
"Among those killed by Boko Haram was my younger brother, Alhaji Goni. Some of my friends and associates were killed in cold blood by Boko Haram."
"For the records, the late leader of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf, once named me, Umaru Yar'Adua and some other leaders as targets. He boasted he would deal with all of us."
"I banned Boko Haram. I was the one who made a law that outlawed the group," he says.  "The sect later changed its name. And in spite of our efforts, the group continued to wreak havoc."

"The sect has become captive of political forces and [has been] used for settling political scores".
"I have no association with any terrorists anywhere. I have never met the group. I cannot be a sponsor of a group I have not met before."
"Today, there are ten thousand members of Boko Haram terrorizing our people. All my actions as governor was to guide my people right."
"The fact that one of my commissioners, Buji Koi, was named as member of the group does not make me a member. It doesn't make sense."
"I leave the rest for Nigerians to judge whether it is a crime to do good to all men."
"I will sue the Australian. I have instructed my lawyers to sue the faceless Australian."
"I don't have foot soldiers, as they alleged. The allegation that some foot soldiers who turned against me became Boko Haram is not true."
He acknowledged that he was recently invited by the State Security Service (SSS) but it had nothing to do with Boko Haram.
"I am prepared to face any panel in the world to clear my name of Boko Haram."

Mikel who plies his soccer trade in England stormed camp with loads of hand gloves which he was ready to share with his team mates and technical officials and the player jokingly made this clear moments after arriving camp.Team?s Media Officer, Ben Alaiya disclosed that Mikel, whose arrival ignited the camp told Keshi that he was ready to give him one of the hand gloves, an offer which saw the players reeling in laughter. Other players that breezed into camp yesterday include Ogenyi Onazi, Kenneth Omeruo, Juwon Oshaniwa, Sone Aluko , Nnamdi Oduamadi, Emma Emenike and stand-in, captain, Austin Ejide. The early arrival of the players made Keshi happy, even as he stated that he expects the best from the players on saturday. Meanwhile, Keshi decided to replace Vincent Enyeama, who is absent for personal reasons with Elkanemi of Maiduguri first choice keeper, David Obiazor. ?We have been monitoring the Nigerian league and we see that the keeper of Elkanemi is a talent, that is why we want to give him a trial. We will see how it turns out when he arrives camp?, Keshi said after lunch yesterday.

Mikel who plies his soccer trade in England stormed camp with loads of hand gloves which he was ready to share with his team mates and technical officials and the player jokingly made this clear moments after arriving camp.Teams Media Officer, Ben Alaiya disclosed that Mikel, whose arrival ignited the camp told Keshi that he was ready to give him one of the hand gloves, an offer which saw the players reeling in laughter. We have been monitoring the Nigerian league and we see that the keeper of Elkanemi is a talent, that is why we want to give him a trial. We will see how it turns out when he arrives camp, Keshi said after lunch yesterday.

ISIS beheads another American journalist, Steven Sotloff

ISIS released a brutal video today showing the beading of a second U.S journalist, 31 year old Steven Sotlof. Sotloff had appeared in another video where U.S Journalist James Foley was killed two weeks ago (left. Sotloff pictured right at the execution scene). And it looks like Sotloff was killed by the same executioner who killed Foley on August 19th. He had same British accent and before beheading Sotloff, the terrorist said;
"I'm back Obama, and I'm back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State, because of your insistence on continuing your bombings on Mosul Dam, despite our serious warning. So just as your missiles continue to strike our people, our knife will continue to strike the necks of your people."
Sotloff disappeared while reporting in Syria a year ago. He worked for Time, Foreign policy & others

Just a week after he was pictured making out with of an unidentified woman at a public car park in Malibu (see here) the actor was back at it again. He was pictured kissing another mystery woman outside a Pizza place in Malibu over the weekend.
