In an exclusive interview to IndiaToday.in, Aditi Rao Hydari talks about her journey in Bollywood, her role in Wazir and fan-girl moment with Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar.
In the winter of 2009, Aditi Rao Hydari made her big screen debut with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6. The petite girl, who played a spinster in the film, might have had a small role, but her very first appearance on screen gave her the right platform to display her talent. However, Aditi refuses to call Delhi 6 her debut as it was just a project she took up during her college days and the final output didn't turn out as promised. Sometime later, the almost-forgotten Aditi made a superb comeback with Yeh Saali Zindagi. Be it her performance or the bold scenes, she made the right noise in the Bollywood circuit. However, five years into filmdom and six films later, the 29-year-old actor still calls herself a relative newcomer.
With no filmi background and no godfather to back her in the industry, her journey in Bollywood has been difficult. "Till today, after five years, every step I take is an uphill struggle. But at the same time, I feel a lot of gratitude because I feel it is possible. The film industry is a very big place. People do look at talent, and I can clearly put myself as an example to say that. I had no backing when I started and I still have no one backing me. It is hard, but I am moving forward. I am working with really amazing people. Yes. I have not had a breakthrough performance. I have not had that breakthrough role. I have not had that huge-numbers film. But people still say that we want to see more of you. People still say her potential hasn't been tapped. So it is a positive thing," says Aditi.
From author-backed roles to cameos, Aditi has experimented with various characters in a career spanning over five years. However, she still feels that she is a small fish in the industry which is dominated by box office numbers and star power. The Murder 3 actor says that she doesn't get the right type of roles as not many filmmakers are ready to take the risk of casting a 'relative newcomer' like her.
