Afternoon Newswrap January 5

Combing operations inside the Indian Air Force (IAF) base in Pathankot, which was attacked by Pakistani terrorists on January 2, entered the fourth day today. Reports said a total of six terrorists have been killed so far. Government said it will take time before security agencies complete the mopping operations as they have to cover a huge area ensuring that no more terrorists are hiding inside the base.

France this week commemorates the victims of last year's Islamist militant attacks on satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket with eulogies, memorial plaques and another cartoon lampooning religion. Heavy security is planned for the ceremonies honouring the 17 victims of the January 7-9 gunfire sprees in Paris, which proved to be a grim forerunner of the suicide bombings and shootings in the city 10 months later in which 130 people died.

Mumbai school cricketer Pranav Dhanawade continued to storm into the record books today when he reached 921 not out for KC Gandhi School against Arya Gurukul during the H.T. Bhandari Cup inter-school cricket tournament organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).Dhanawade had broken the record for the highest individual score in any class of cricket yesterday when he reached 652 not out.
